1957 Yamakatsu Dai Gunbai 6-7 Set

BC578-1, Type 1: Grey Paper Stock

BC578-2, Type 2: Tan Paper Stock

BC578-3, Type 3: White Paper Stock

Description:  This is one of the most common sets from the 1950s.  Menko are easy to find and are on the market frequently.  However, it is difficult to find menko in good condition because of their popularity.  The quality of this set isn't very well as pictures aren't sharp and in some shots you can't even see the faces of the main rikishi.  Not a very desirable set, but a nice starter set for those just getting into collecting sumo menko.

    Company: Yamakatsu                                     Availability: Common

Card Size: 1.75" X 3.0"                                    Card Material: Thin, Paper Stock

    # of Cards: 36+                                                Packaging: Sheet

Winner Stamp Description:  1,2 or 3 inside a circle.  Purple ink is most common

Front Design:  Most of the menko show the rikishi in their kesho-mawashi or an action shot against a solid color background.  Rikishi's shikona is vertical, but can be hard to see in some menko.

Back Design:  Statistics appear vertically in the middle of the menko surrounded by a large gunbai.  A Gu-Cho-Pa is in the lower left corner.  A 6 or 7 digit Fighting Number is along the bottom.  Menko backs are printed on either a tan or grey paper stock.  This set has quite a few winner menko.
